Climbing for Beginners Course – 4 wks from April 9 2024

The club has arranged through our local climbing wall at Warwick University (Coventry) for a short “instructor led” course. (1:4 ratio with a maximum of 8 participants).
This will include
• 4 x one-hour sessions over four weeks commencing April 9th 2024 7pm
• Suitable for all abilities
• Learn the basics or develop new techniques
What you’ll learn
• Basics of climbing safely including putting on a harness correctly, performing pre-climbing checks and safe practice in the Bouldering Room
• How to descend from a route correctly
• To tie a rethreaded figure of 8 knot and stopper knot
• Using a friction Belay device to be able to catch a falling climber
What it’ll cost
The cost is £59 which includes use of the wall, instruction and all equipment, showers etc. The follow up session in the Peak District on May 12th is also included and whilst our climbers may or may not be qualified, they are happy to invest their time and share their knowledge and experience with you.
You will also become a member of HMC which includes BMC affiliation and 3rd party insurance, access to all our meets, and discount at many gear shops including Blacks, Go Outdoors and Cotswold (15%)
What you’ll get afterwards
All being well, you will obtain a “Green Card” which will enable to use the wall thereafter unsupervised.
And what next? You’ve been climbing at our local wall. You’ve done the course, and you’ll have met some of members.
The club will follow these sessions up with a free one day climbing at Stanage Edge in The Peak District May 12th with some of our own climbers and giving you the opportunity to meet even more members of Hinckley Mountaineering Club.
