Who We Are?

OUR PRESIDENT

Professor Claire Ellwood

Members are proud to have selected Professor Claire Ellwood as the first lady to hold the office of Club President since we formed in 1980. Claire is a proficient climber, walker, and skier who also enjoys a wee dram! She said she hopes this coming year the club can continue to grow and welcome new members, whilst having fun doing so and enjoying our many social

EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCES

There are plenty of adventures to be had on the way: you’ll drink tea with Munro baggers, explore hills and mountains all around the country and spot eagles in the Highlands. You’ll get sunburnt on the crag, maybe lashed by rain, get bruised and exhausted too, but you’ll have the time of your life and likely to meet new friends and make a lifetime of memories on the way

With the club having turned 40 in 2020 HMC has never been in a better position to share its wealth of experience and camaraderie

Our Core Values

To promote and provide opportunities to individuals of all abilities and to enhance the outdoor experience of our club members

Member Profiles

Ian

A stalwart since joining as a member in 1985 and a driving force in the club. Always encouraging members to come along on Skiing trips, Alpine Summer Trips as well as the regular weekend meets, day-walks and pub walks, which he often organises from scratch. Where would we be without our vertically challenged ‘Ed’?

Carolyn

Having been a club member for many years, Carolyn participates in just about anything including climbing, kayaking, running, mountain-biking, skiing, scrambling and hill-walking. A good all rounder, she’s also stitched herself up as our social secretary so look forward to some great events throughout the year.

Phill

The club is a collection of decent and friendly individuals who just love the outdoors and Phill is one of those. In addition to his culinary skills, he will also make new members feel welcome and feel part of the club right from the off. He’ll try his hand at most things including long walks, short walks and the odd scramble, but is also proficient in kayaking, climbing and any madcap adventure that comes his way. He’s even volunteered as our secretary for 2024

Kev

Vice Chairman Kev became a member of the club in the 1980s as a novice climber and soon established himself as one of our top performers in various disciplines, whether it be on UK crags or in the Alps. Besides his climbing abilities, Kev also excels at walking, mountain-biking, skiing or simply being around to pass on his knowledge to members (old or new) and is good all-rounder who can adapt to any situation right when you need it
