Activities

Your next adventure is just around the corner!

Club dedicated to Hillwalking Climbing & Mountaineering in the UK and beyond and with a great social scene too

CLIMBING

Our climbers meet every week at one of the local climbing walls (usually Warwick) and when the weather is fine the edges in the Peak District are a favourite destination - as are the monthly meets to some fabulous climbing areas. Climbing walls are great, especially in winter, but its what happens next that’s more interesting!

HillWalking

There are many hillwalkers in the club, enjoying anything from a gentle stroll to the more challenging long-distance footpaths or the Munros of Scotland. We’re often to be found in the Peak District, Cotswolds, Shropshire or Mid-Wales with our frequent day walks and get up higher on our monthly meets, including the occasional backpacking trip

Mountain Biking

The (not-so hairy) bikers of the club arrange local rides to areas such as Cannock Chase and Bradgate Park. They also bring along their trusty steeds to some of our monthly meets tackling single-track descents in fantastic areas such as Coed y Brenin and Grizedale Forest and there's even talk of some bike-packing!

Skiing

In addition to ski trips organised by individual members, we often have a club ski trip to the Alps to get our adrenalin rush! Last winter we had members in Austria and France. The 22-23 season we went to Meribel and are currently looking for Val D'Isere/Tignes '24 season.

Other Activities

We are a hillwalking climbing and mountaineering club and keep ‘official’ club organised activities to these areas. If you’re lucky to be retired or have some flexi-time, we also organise regular trips mid-week. During the summer months we also have a local Wednesday Evening Pub Walk (also open to non-members) – visiting on average 25 different pubs over the season!
As you would expect our members get up to many other outdoor activities, and the club has always been a good way to meet people for these too. Activities we also like include: Scrambling, Road Cycling, Orienteering, Backpacking, Cross-country skiing, Park Runs, Kayaking, Wild Swimming and Eating Cake!

Social Activities

We meet up every Thursday evening at The Plough, Hinckley and some even drink tea!
Certain events now form the backbone of the Clubs social calendar, the highlight of the year being the Presidents Meet in October, our annual dinner with the presentation of the prestigious “TAT” awards, as well as The Presidents Shield, The Don Ward Axe and the highly prized John Trow Pork Pie Award. An inter-club skittles match with our old friends at Rugby MC normally takes place during early spring. The odd quiz night, curry night and multi-media slide show also take place (usually in winter) as does “Trowies Pud Walk”. Occasionally the club has hosted bigger events featuring the likes of Mick Fowler, Simon Yates (Touching the Void) Andy Kirkpatrick and our all time favourite George Band (Everest 1953)

Why HMC

It’s not just about the walking, climbing or mountaineering. It’s a great place to meet like-minded people and be part of something that goes above and beyond.
