Climbing for Beginners 4 sessions throughout October (Tuesdays)

Due to unprecedented demand in September we’re having ANOTHER Climbing for Beginners course.
The club has arranged through our local climbing wall at Warwick University (Coventry) for a short “instructor led” course. This will include
• 4 x one-hour sessions over four weeks in September (Mon OR Tues)
• Suitable for all abilities, Max of 8 on a 2:4 ratio
• Learn the basics or develop new techniques
• Tues 7pm – (but we may run an additional session) and afterwards you can mingle with our own climbers if you so desire.

What you’ll learn
• Basics of climbing safely including putting on a harness correctly, performing pre-climbing checks and safe practice in the Bouldering Room
• How to descend from a route correctly
• To tie a rethreaded figure of 8 knot and stopper knot
• Using a friction Belay device to be able to catch a falling climber

What it’ll cost
The cost is £42 which includes use of the wall equipment, showers etc. The follow up session in the Peak District is free and whilst our climbers may or may not be qualified, they are happy to invest their time and share their knowledge and experience with you
If you join HMC in November, we’ll give you 14 mths membership for the price of 12 mths: (£22) including BMC affiliation, and access to discount at many gear shops

What you’ll get afterwards
All being well, you will obtain a “Green Card” which will enable to use the wall thereafter unsupervised.
And what next? You’ve been climbing at our local wall. You’ve done the course but you’ve no one to climb with on a regular basis………Now’s the time to join the club!
The club will follow these sessions up with a free one day climbing at Stanage Edge in The Peak District with some of our own climbers and giving you the opportunity to meet other members of Hinckley Mountaineering Club
In addition, if you join us as a club member, you’ll also have access to the BMC course for novice club members (May 15/17, 2020). The course fee of just £65 includes self-catering, shared accommodation at Plas y Brenin for the weekend, three-course meal on the Saturday evening, all group kit and all instruction.                                 NOTE: THIS COURSE AT PLAS Y BRENIN IS FOR CLUB MEMBERS ONLY
When booking your place, you will need to choose which practical sessions you wish to participate in. The four choices (for both climbers and walkers) are:
• Saturday afternoon: Single pitch rock climbing, & Sunday: Single pitch rock climbing
• Saturday afternoon: Single pitch rock climbing, & Sunday: Scrambling
• Saturday afternoon: Hill walking, & Sunday: Scrambling
• Saturday afternoon: Hill walking, & Sunday: Hill walking
On Saturday morning everyone will be together doing indoor sessions
