Foot & Mouth Now!
Spring 2001
Well I guess that with this Foot & Mouth Crisis you probably think nothing is going on. But you would be wrong in that!
If you're planning your HMC social life, then the next meet in the Lakes has been cancelled.
At the time of writing this the Onich Meet was still on watch this space for more news.
Elvyn is looking for a skittles team again, the venue is the Red Lion, Huncote on 24 April at 8:00 pm. Contact Elvyn for more details.
The club is still meeting on Thursday nights at the Black Horse. A series of slide shows is being planned for the near future.
So far this year members have managed to get out and about cycling, walking and wedding.
I'll start with the most recent first.
Wedding!
Congratulations go to Ewan Lee and his blushing bride Vicky on their wedding on Easter Saturday. The club was well represented by members past and present, and i'm told didn't lower the tone too much!
Apart from the wedding itself the highlight was Eddie trying to smuggle himself into the get away car. "I can't let the boy down now in his hour of need" he was heard to scream as he was dragged back to the bar.
Biking
A team comprising Ed, Pete Beasley, Trowie, Dave P, and Mark H spent a pleasurable day biking the Tissington Trail on the first Monday that it re-opened. We had the trail mostly to ourselves to start with and made a steady pace to the Royal Oak at Sparkslow. The Landlord was very pleased to see us but informed us that his choice of beer was severely limited.
After lunch the cycling quintet made their way back via the High Peak trail and road to rejoin the Tissington at Fenny Bentley. The trail had by this time become quite busy, but the obligatory race was held anyway. DP arriving back at the carpark first.
Walking
Prior to the current restrictions much walking was taking place. I don't have a full overview yet, but Mark and Ackie spent a day wandering across Kinder Scout and Mark, Ed and Trowie had a day out around the top end of Dovedale. Both were excellent walking days and were used as a slow return to fitness.
Foot And Mouth
Crags and paths are opening up. The latest in a variable provision is that Millstone, Wildcat, Black Rocks, Wildcat are all open. They all have some restrictions at present. Please check for more info by contacting the BMC before you go.
